2006:Melody Transcription from Monophonic Audio Recordings (it is NOT the same as melody extraction)

I feel interested in this topic. I also wander what the current state of the art is. Is that possible we have a music dictation system, which can write down whatever music we as non-professional musicians hum, sing or whistle? Is there possible standard database to help develop and evaluate such a music transcripion task?
